Cherating Beach

Since it's the holiday season, we took the opportunity to visit the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

There were various textures to the sand.
It was mostly soft and nice to touch.
Sometimes it got ticklish when the crabs and hermit crabs crawl all over our feet.

Can you see the hermit crabs fighting above?
Perhaps only two of them are fighting for the same shell.
The winner would leave behind an empty shell which may be just the right size for a smaller hermit crab.
Why not wait for an abandoned house?
But which side to wait?
The queue on the right side is definitely longer.

Seashells are always lovely but the hermit crabs were not interested in these.

As for me, I was more drawn towards the woods than jet ski or parasail.

The beach is not only white or grey.
These are some wildflowers that brighten up the beach.

Happy New Year!

  4. Gorgeous photos. I'm completely taken with one of the images in the sand. It looks like a large old tree to me.

  11. One, i've long been waiting for your post, i miss them. You have excellent shots here, i love the way you took them, we have the same likes to focus on! However, maybe your camera has better close-up focus. You're very observant to see those minor details in texture.I love to go beach photowalking with you.And...i envy you for making that collage!

  14. Hello One. Thanks for the trip to the beach. Your photos of the various creatures are very interesting. You have a very good eye for design. I needed a bit of a get-a-way. We are still cold and dry here, but a huge storm is supposed to be moving in tomorrow and I surely will want to return to the beach. Happy New Year, One. See you next year. cheers. ann

  16. Diana, We didn't try otak-otak but we had stuffed crab. Having stuffed crab is about enjoying crab without having to break the shells.

Talibra, Happy New Year to you!

Alice, Why not plan for a getaway in Winter? I saw many foreigners at the beach.

Marguerite, You noted that old tree too? I am glad you enjoyed watching nature's creation like I do.

Rohrerbot, Really happy to know that you have enjoyed looking at those micro shots.

TS, Wonder how your leg is. No hopping around at the beach. Time for you to hibernate.

Fer, You are right! When we pay attention, there can be endless of photos that seem worth taking.

Donna, "Sun rays, if you may, shine the other way and brighten up Donna's day."

Cat, Actually there were hearts in many places. But I didn't always have my camera with me. Glad you noted those hearty bubbles.

P3Chandan, Thanks. Well, that reminds me that I have not seen your mosaic yet. How is it coming along?

Hi Andrea, I am sure you have beautiful beaches over at Philippines. My wide shots are not as good as yours which is why I am showing mostly macros. :)

Bangchik, When I was there, I thought that you probably live nearby and may be having a holiday there. So you did but at a different time.

    Milka, Thanks.

Ann, Huge storm? Oh no! Hope it doesn't do too much harm. May you have a pleasant Winter and a Happy New Year.

Orchid, Happy New Year to you too.

  18. I though I see fossils in one or two of you photos; both the colourful and white or grey are attractive.

The hermit crabs do not like the seashells may be because of the weight of the later. How to move around with a huge house?

Happy New Year to you and your family.

  19. Hi One...I don't live near the sea so beach visits are special! That happens only once in a blue moon!! Loved your pictures of the crabs, sand and shells. Glad you also included the wild flowers in your post.

  21. Joyce, The beach at the East Coast has much finer and cleaner sand as compared to the West Coast. The journey is pretty long though.

Rainfield, I wonder what photos you would have taken at the beach. :)

Kanak7, It was a pretty long journey for me too. Thanks for coming by.

Ginny, Happy New Year to you too!

  28. Hi One - I haven't been to Cherating for years. Still unspoilt by development, I see. Your post makes me want to have a holiday there again soon. I'll wait till the monsoon season is over.
    Great collages.
